Lake Hodges Dam in Southern California (San Diego)

Although not a conventional hiking destination, Lake Hodges Dam is a great place to explore by foot. The dam itself is very impressive, and the lake is one of the most beautiful sites of Southern California. If you feel adventures and tired of the ocean, it is a great place to go sightseeing of something that not that many people know of.

Lake Hodges Dam is a multiple-arch dam that sits on the San Dieguito River. It was commissioned by the Volcan Water Company and designed by John S. Eastwood. It was completed in 1918, and later purchased by the city of San Diego. Water from the Lake Hodges Reservoir services the customers of the Santa Fe Irrigation District and the San Dieguito Water District.

Mission Trails Regional Park

Mission Trails Regional Park is one of the best hiking spots in San Diego. It covers over 6000 acres of natural and developed recreational areas with Old Mission Dam being a centerpiece of this amazing place.

The park has sixty miles of hiking, a rock climbing area, mountain bike and equestrian trails, and the Kumeyaay Lake Campground with 46 camp sites adjacent to a small lake. The park consists mostly of rugged canyons and hills, with both natural and developed recreation areas, including many beautiful flowers. It is the seventh-largest open space urban park in the United States.

Below is a glimpse into natural beauty of the park, - this video has been taken from a RC quadcopter controlled from a moving vehicle, please enjoy in HD:
